"I started messing around on the Freedom Trail in 2019 while on sabbatical in South Africa from the USA where I now live. My brother (Chris) had just taken over as race director, so I signed up for RTC in 2019 to see what this was all about. It was my first real exposure to mountain biking and definitely my first time bike packing. I was hooked. Later that year also completed RTR. Ever since then I find any excuse to get back to South Africa in the winter so I can participate in an FC event. I completed RASA in 2021, and RTR in 2022. Now I am back to have another crack at RASA. For me it is not a race but a pilgrimage. I just want to complete it and embrace the experience. For the first time at any FC event my wife and two daughters will be at the finish line, if I am able to get there."
